This week’s strip reminds me of a familiar scenario. There you are with your boys. You see an attractive female you want to talk to. Your friends encourage you to ask her out. That’s great…except it can be intimidating to put yourself out there in front of your friends. If it doesn’t go your way, not only do you have to deal with the rejection, but you’ve now got an audience to bear witness to it.
I recently started back with a regular gym routine. Since coming back from vacation in February, I’ve been a kind of slackadaisical. It sure does feel good to get back to exercising regularly. But going to gym reminds me that it can be…distracting.
It’s kind of funny to watch this at work sometimes. A new lady enters to the arena all the guys somehow make their way to talking to her. It’s like Battle of the Alpha Male All-Stars. Of course this isn’t just limited to the work environment. You can witness this anywhere there exists a preponderance of males.
I was really hesitant with this week’s strip at first. I had the notion of the boxing analogy in my mind but I didn’t know where to take it. I had a few ideas, but I didn’t like any of them. Nevertheless, I jumped headlong into drawing it. Fortunately, a good idea came to mind and BAM! It’s amazing how often that happens. I probably could have put some backgrounds in the last panel. Other than that, I’m really happy with the way it turned out.
I think smart phones are really awesome. They are great for keeping you productive while on the go and for preventing a bad case of boredom. However, there does seem to be at least one side-effect.  Sometimes I’ll see people hanging out together, except…that they are each preoccupied with their cell phone. It’s like they’re spending some quality time together while completely ignoring each other!  It’s actually kind of funny. Now, I won’t say I’m not guilty of getting distracted by my phone while I’m hanging out with friends. But, I try to keep it in check.
