It’s interesting the myriad of advices you get from people. One friend tells you one thing; another tells you the exact opposite. After a while you start getting a feel for which direction each friend will generally tell you to go. For example, I know friend X will give me “throw caution to the wind†advice while friend Y will advice me to be more meticulous. I find the best advice generally comes from those that share value system similar to yours. Those that don’t, tend to give you advice that’s more…interesting.

When I go to the gym, I usually stick to the weights. But if I’m feeling a bit ambitious, I’ll hit up the treadmill for some cardio action. One thing I haven’t done is a spinning, Latin dance class, or any of the other organized classes. I’m sure it’s a tough work out and one of these days, I’ll give it a shot. I’ve also noticed that these classes consist mostly of women. It makes me wonder, sometimes, how many of the men in these classes joined them for the scenery rather than the workout itself. Hmmm…

My friend Johnny over at www.finncomics.com recently had a marathon art session. 24 hour comics. Yup, I said 24 hours. To stay on target I had to crank through strips like a mad man! After not sleeping for 24 hours I really did start feeling kinda loopy. I got a lot of art work done, though the quality seemed to be somewhat suspect at times! This week’s strip came out of that effort. When I look at it now, I totally lobbed a brick on the first panel. The proportions look a bit wacky. I probably should have done some more supplementary work on it.
One of the things I’ve been trying to do more of is drawing the characters from different angles. Too often I get stuck in drawing the figures from the same angles. So, I’ve been trying to branch out more. You can see that in the first panel where I drew Riley from underneath, looking-up angle. I think it makes it more interesting and it sets the stage for the strip itself. Hopefully it works!

This week’s strip continues with along the same story as the last 2 strips. The familiar territory of being at happy hour and trying to strike up a conversation. Sometimes it goes well and sometimes it just goes!
I’m not sure the background works well in this strip. I may have gotten too lazy on this one! I must admit that backgrounds are one of my weak areas. I usually find myself trying to decide just what to do with the background. It’s definitely an aspect I need to work on. Stay tuned…
